Limiting global warming and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050
Entered into force on 4 November 2016, the Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius, preferably to 1.5 degrees, compared with pre-industrial levels. This objective is combined with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, reaffirmed by the European Green Deal adopted in June 2021 and linked to an intermediate target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030.
Electric mobility is one of the essential solutions for achieving this goal. The transport sector accounts for a major share of greenhouse gas emissions, and most CO2 emissions from transport are still caused by the combustion of fossil fuels.
GIEVSS analysis
Technical, economic and environmental analysis continues to show that, in terms of CO2 emissions, costs, air pollution and energy availability, the electric vehicle remains the most mature technology for tomorrow's road transport.
